Manufacturer's description

Oil intended for high-capacity diesel engines. Shell Rimula R4 X delivers triple protection for improved engine and oil durability. It helps lower maintenance costs and increase vehicle reliability. It is suitable for most high-output diesel engines, for on-highway and off-highway applications.

Applications

  • High-output heavy duty diesel enginesShell Rimula R4 X delivers proven protection and performance in the latest high-output diesel engines from European, American and Japanese manufacturers, for on-highway and off-highway applications.
  • Shell Rimula R4 X is suitable for most modern low-emission engines that meet the Euro 5, 4, 3, 2 and US 2002 emissions requirements. Shell Rimula R4 X is suitable for use with biodiesel at the drain intervals recommended by the OEM.
  • For the latest low-emission engines, particularly those fitted with diesel exhaust particulate filters (DPF), we recommend the use of our low-emission products, Shell Rimula R4 L or Shell Rimula R5 LE.
  • Advanced technology for low-emission engines: Shell Rimula R4 X is suitable for most modern low-emission engines that meet the Euro 5, 4, 3, 2 and US 2002 emissions requirements. Shell Rimula R4 X is suitable for use with biodiesel at the drain intervals recommended by the OEM

Performance & benefits

  • Acid and corrosion controlShell Rimula R4 X provides excellent acid control by reducing the accumulation of acids and the chemical corrosion of engine bearings. Harmful acids from fuel combustion are controlled by the use of detergent additives selected to neutralise these acids and to help prevent corrosion of metal surfaces.
  • Reduces engine wearShell Rimula R4 X provides a high level of engine wear protection in critical areas: the valve train, pistons and cylinder liners. Wear control is achieved by adding anti-wear additives designed to form protective films in metal-to-metal contact areas when different engine operating conditions require it, and by using soot dispersant additives that keep soot particles finely dispersed to prevent wear.
  • Deposit controlShell Rimula R4 X helps prevent oil thickening and deposit formation in all areas of the engine, including sludge and piston deposits. The optimised detergent and dispersant additive system in Shell Rimula R4 X keeps engines cleaner compared with the previous generation of Shell Rimula R3 products.
