Manufacturer's description

Mobil Pegasus 1 is a high-performance synthetic gas engine oil designed to meet the highest performance requirements of the most demanding naturally aspirated and turbocharged, stoichiometric and lean-burn gas engines. Formulated from wax-free synthetic base oils and a balanced additive system, it delivers performance unattainable with conventional mineral-oil-based gas engine oils, minimizing ash deposits, piston land and ring belt deposits, liner scuffing, and valve seat and face wear. Its outstanding oxidation resistance and inherently high viscosity index maintain a protective lubricant film at high temperatures well beyond the limits of mineral-oil products, while low volatility reduces oil consumption and improves valve lubrication. Mobil Pegasus 1 (SAE 15W-40, 0.5% ash) is recommended for a wide range of gas engine modes, particularly high-speed, four-cycle turbocharged and naturally aspirated engines requiring a nominal 0.5% ash oil, in both stoichiometric and lean-burn designs. It is ideally suited to cogeneration and ebullient-cooled applications thanks to its wide temperature range and extended engine protection, is fully compatible with common gas engine seals and mineral oils (though admixture lowers performance benefits), and may be used with fuel gas containing up to 0.3% sulphur as hydrogen sulphide. The product holds approvals from MAN M 3271-1/-2, MWM TR 0199-99-2105, Wartsila W25SG, INNIO Waukesha Engine 220GL and cogeneration/gas compression applications, and Caterpillar Energy Solutions TR 2105 (CG132, CG170, CG260), plus VOLVO CNG fueled bus engines, delivering longer filter life, cleaner engines, improved valve guide performance, easier cold-temperature cranking, and reduced wear and scuffing under high BMEP conditions.

Applications

  • • Mobil Pegasus 1 is recommended for a wide range of gas engine modes. • The product is particularly suited for high speed, four-cycle turbocharged and naturally aspirated gas engines requiring a nominal 0.5% ash gas engine oil. • It is an excellent lubricant for both stoichiometric and lean-burn designs • It is ideally suited for cogeneration and ebullient cooled applications because of its wide temperature range capability and extended engine protection and long oil life. • Mobil Pegasus 1 is fully compatible with all seals commonly used in gas engines and with mineral oils but admixture with mineral oils will lower the performance benefits that can be obtained from this outstanding lubricant • May be used with gas engines using alternative energy sources for fuel gas containing up to 0.3% sulphur as hydrogen sulphide

Standards & approvals

  • MAN M 3271-1

    MAN M 3271-1 — gas engine oil

MAN's specification for stationary gas engine oils, with controlled ash to protect valves and spark plugs.

  • MAN M 3271-2

    MAN M 3271-2 — biogas engine oil

The MAN specification variant for engines running biogas or landfill gas, where the oil must neutralise the acids formed from gas impurities.

  • MWM TR 0199-99-2105

MWM TR 0199-99-2105 — gas engine oil

The MWM — today Caterpillar Energy Solutions — technical requirement for the oils in its own stationary gas engines, with controlled ash to protect the valves.

  • INNIO Waukesha Engine 220GL Applications Using Pipeline Quality Gas

INNIO Waukesha 220GL — natural gas engine oil

The INNIO Waukesha requirement for oil in the 220GL series running pipeline-quality gas, where ash must stay in the window that protects the valve seats without forming deposits.
