Manufacturer's description

Shell Alexia S6 is the range of cylinder lubricants designed for use in all low-speed two-stroke diesel engines operating under extreme conditions. It offers additional protection to engines that require a high-performance product and is suitable for engines burning residual fuel with a sulphur level >1%. It was created to deliver excellent performance in new engines under additional stresses, in operating conditions such as "slow steaming" and "flexible" operation, and with high fuel sulphur levels. Shell Alexia S6 uses Shell's unique triple-action technology to provide advanced protection for engines facing cold corrosion, such as Tier II tuned engines and those retrofitted with turbocharger cut-out, where additional support from the lubricant is required. It has been specially formulated to address all aspects of oil stress.

Applications

  • Low-speed two-stroke diesel enginesCylinder lubrication of low-speed, two-stroke diesel engines under conditions of very high oil stress (for example, very long-stroke engines or those fitted with turbocharger cut-out) and using residual fuel with sulphur > 1.0%. For HFO used in the lower sulphur range, see Specifications, approvals and recommendations
  • Shell Alexia S6 has been approved for use in: MAN B&W two-stroke engines (provided the recommendations specific to the engine type are followed).
  • Wärtsilä two-stroke engines (provided the recommendations specific to the engine type are followed).
  • MHI two-stroke engines (provided the recommendations specific to the engine type are followed).
  • Insufficient oil feed rates can lead to corrosive wear, seized and broken rings, and consequent blow-by and scavenge fire risks, and to the formation of excessive deposits. Feed rates should be determined in accordance with the OEM specifications and should be optimised using a combination of "onboard" analysis (such as Shell Analex Alert and Shell Onboard+) and used-oil analysis (such as Shell RLA), in conjunction with engine inspection. Shell Alexia S6 has a BN of 100 and is an SAE 50 cylinder oil.
  • For the full list of equipment approvals and recommendations, please consult your local Shell Technical Helpdesk representative. Compatibility and miscibility
  • Miscibility with other cylinder lubricantsTypical physical properties. It is recommended that onboard results (such as Shell ANALEX Alert and Shell Onboard+) and onshore used-oil analysis (such as Shell RLA) be used to establish whether it would be beneficial to switch to Shell Alexia S4. This is particularly important when running at full load in combination with lower fuel sulphur levels. Shell Alexia S6 is fully miscible with other cylinder lubricants. However, for optimum performance, Shell Alexia S6 should not be used in conjunction with another cylinder lubricant

  • MAN
