Manufacturer's description

Mobil SHC™ Gear 320 WindPower is an advanced, high-performance synthetic wind turbine gear oil formulated with ExxonMobil's metallocene polyalphaolefin (mPAO) synthetic base oil and proprietary additive technology. It is engineered to provide optimum equipment protection and maximize lubricant life in wind turbine gearboxes, with increased lubrication film thickness that gives outstanding wear protection and higher load-carrying capacity, helping prevent surface fatigue failures. The oil is certified by DNV to not contribute to oil-related White Etching Crack (WEC) effects, and — when used together with Mobil Xtra™ EP WT top-treat additive — has demonstrated fill-for-life capability through accelerated ageing testing, with DNV certifying its suitability for use throughout a 25-year wind turbine gearbox lifetime. It also offers superb protection against micropitting fatigue wear, high resistance to traditional scuffing, outstanding foam protection even after fine filtration, and a low-sulfur formulation for compatibility with yellow metals and soft coatings. The product was developed in accordance with APQP4Wind standards and best practices. Mobil SHC Gear 320 WindPower is recommended primarily for wind turbine main gearboxes, as well as auxiliary gearboxes such as pitch and yaw drive gear motors, and heavily loaded gearboxes with surface-hardened tooth metallurgies subject to micropitting. It meets or exceeds IEC 61400-4, AGMA 9005-F16 AS, DIN 51517-3 and ISO 12925-1 (L-CKD, L-CKSMP, L-CTPR) requirements, and is non-toxic to aquatic organisms per the GESAMP hazard evaluation procedure.

Applications

  • Mobil SHC Gear 320 WindPower advanced wind turbine gear lubricant is primarily recommended for lubrication of the main gearbox in wind turbines. It is also recommended for applications subject to micropitting, especially heavily loaded gearboxes with surface-hardened tooth metallurgies, which are typically used in wind turbines. It may also be used in gear applications where extreme low and/or high temperatures are encountered. Typical applications include: • Wind turbine main gearboxes • Auxiliary gearboxes in wind turbines, such as gear motors for pitch and yaw drives Application consideration: while Mobil SHC Gear 320 WindPower is compatible with most widely used wind turbine gear oil products, it is recommended that systems are thoroughly cleaned out and flushed before switching to Mobil SHC Gear 320 WindPower to achieve the maximum performance benefits.

Performance & benefits

  • Formulated with high quality synthetic base oils and advancedWhen used in combination with Mobil Xtra™ EP WT, enables suitability of use
  • sustainable antioxidant system to help maximize the life of the gearthroughout the wind turbine gearbox lifetime thus helping optimize wind turbine uptime
  • oil to last the lifetime of the gearboxand reduce maintenance costs and potential safety incidents
  • Superb protection from micropitting fatigue wearas well as high** — Helps extend gear and bearing life in enclosed gear drives operating under extreme
  • resistance to traditional scuffing wearconditions of load, speed and temperature
  • Does not contribute to oil related effects of White Etching CracksHelps reduce unplanned downtime and maintenance from premature bearing failure and
  • (WEC) Outstanding foam protection, even after fine filtrationgearbox replacement. Helps reduce risk of spillage and environmental impact. Reduces turbine trips due to false oil level alarms

Standards & approvals

  • ISO L-CKD (ISO 12925-1:2024)

ISO 12925-1 type CKD — high-temperature gear oil

Class CKD of ISO 12925-1: a gear oil with the same additive package as CKC but greater thermal stability, for gear units running hot.

  • AGMA 9005-F16 AS

    AGMA 9005-F16, synthetic grade (AS)

The synthetic oil class within AGMA 9005-F16, for enclosed gear drives running at temperature extremes or needing extended drain intervals, where a mineral EP oil will not do.

  • DIN 51517-3:2018-09

    Industrial gear oil :2018-09 — DIN 51517, part 3

The 2018 issue of part 3, which added paint and seal compatibility requirements and a stricter micropitting threshold.
