Manufacturer's description

High-quality industrial oils for steam and gas turbines. Shell Turbo T oils have long been regarded as the industry-standard turbine oils. Building on this reputation, Shell Turbo T oils have been developed to deliver improved performance capable of meeting the requirements of the most modern steam turbine and light gas turbine systems that do not require improved anti-wear performance for the gearbox. Shell Turbo T oils are formulated from high-quality hydrotreated base oils and a combination of zinc-free additives, which deliver excellent oxidative stability, protection against rust and corrosion, reduced foaming and excellent demulsibility.

Applications

  • Shell Turbo T oils are available in ISO viscosity grades 32, 46, 68 and 100, suitable for applications in the following areas: industrial steam turbines and light gas turbines that do not require improved anti-wear performance for the gearbox
  • Numerous applications where outstanding control of corrosion and oxidation is required
  • Dynamic, centrifugal and axial turbocompressors and pumps where R&O type turbine oils are recommended
  • Industrial steam turbines and light gas turbines that do not require improved anti-wear performance for the gearbox
  • Hydroelectric turbine lubrication

Performance & benefits

  • Excellent oxidation stabilityThe use of oxidatively stable base oils, together with an effective inhibitor package, provides high resistance to oxidative degradation. The result is an extended oil life, reducing the formation of aggressive corrosive acids, deposits and sludge, and thereby lowering operating costs.
  • High foam resistance and rapid air releaseThe oils are formulated with anti-foam additives, which generally control foam formation. This characteristic, together with the rapid release of air from the lubricant, reduces the possibility of problems such as pump cavitation, excessive wear and premature oil oxidation, thereby delivering increased system reliability.
  • Excellent oil/water separation propertiesExcellent demulsibility — with excess water being commonplace in steam turbines — makes it easy to remove water from the lubrication system, minimising premature wear and corrosion and reducing the risk of unplanned maintenance.
  • Excellent rust and corrosion protectionPrevents rust formation and the onset of corrosion, thereby protecting equipment exposed to moisture or water, both during operation and during shutdowns, minimising maintenance.
  • ISO 8068:2006 - L-TGA, 8068:2006 - L-THA, 8068:2006 - L-TSA
