Manufacturer's description

Mobil SHC Pegasus™ 40 is an advanced-technology synthetic natural gas engine oil designed to give today's high-output, low-emission four-cycle gas engines the highest levels of protection. It uses a patented combination of high-quality base stocks and advanced additive technology to deliver exceptional oxidation stability, nitration resistance and thermal stability, with a formulation carefully balanced to provide outstanding anti-wear performance and control the formation of carbon and varnish deposits. The oil's outstanding anti-wear characteristics help protect heavily loaded valve train components, pistons, liners, bearings and gear trains, while its detergent-dispersant system controls carbon and varnish formation to minimize oil consumption and keep engines clean even during extended drain intervals. Its exceptional oxidation stability, nitration resistance and thermal stability offer the potential to extend drain intervals to four to eight times those of conventional gas engine oils, and low volatility further reduces oil consumption and deposit formation. Mobil SHC Pegasus 40 (SAE 40) is recommended for turbocharged, naturally aspirated, medium- to high-speed four-cycle engines requiring a low-ash oil, including lean-burn and stoichiometric engines under high load and temperature, high-speed cogeneration engines, natural gas engines fitted with catalytic converters, and engines running on fuel containing low levels of H2S. It holds the MAN M 3271-2 builder approval.

Applications

  • • Turbocharged, naturally aspirated, medium to high speed four-cycle engines requiring a low ash oil • Lean-burn and stoichiometric four-cycle engines operating under high load, high temperature conditions • High-speed four-cycle gas engines used in cogeneration applications • Natural gas fuelled engines equipped with catalytic converters • Gas engines operating on fuel that contains low levels of H2S

Performance & benefits

  • • Outstanding anti-wear characteristics help to protect heavily loaded valve train components, pistons, liners, bearings, and gear trains • Excellent detergent-dispersant system controls the formation of carbon and varnish deposits to minimize oil consumption and maintain engine cleanliness even during extended drain intervals • Exceptional oxidation stability, nitration resistance and thermal stability provide the opportunity to extend drain intervals by four to eight times that of conventional gas engine oils • Low volatility reduces oil consumption and reduces deposit formation
