Environmentally Acceptable Saturated Synthetic Ester Gear and Bearing Fluid. Shell Naturelle S4 Gear Fluid is an advanced synthetic fluid for gearing applications such as thrusters and propulsion drives. Manufactured from fully saturated esters, it is designed to deliver superior load-carrying performance while meeting the requirements for Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants (EAL) as defined by the US EPA 2013 Vessel General Permit (VGP).

• Lower Environmental ImpactAn ‘environmentally acceptable lubricant’ as defined by the US EPA 2013 Vessel General Permit (VGP). Offers reduced impact of leaks or accidental spillage into aquatic and marine environments compared to conventional mineral gear oil thanks to their higher biodegradability (Publication EPA 800-R-11-002) At least 90% by mass of this lubricant's components are readily biodegradable, achieving a passing result of ≥60% according to OECD 301B. Particularly suited for applications mandating compliance with US EPA 2013 Vessel General Permit (VGP) requirements for environmentally acceptable lubricants.

• Maintaining system efficiencyShell Naturelle S4 Gear fluid has excellent water separation properties. Excess water can be easily drained from lubrication systems; which helps to extend the life of equipment and ensures efficient lubrication of contact areas.

  Ester-based EP gear oils to DIN 51517-3 in three viscosity grades. The ester base makes them biodegradable and heat-resistant.

• ISO 14635 A20/8.3/90 >13

  FZG test ISO 14635-1, load stage > 13

  A test result rather than a norm: the FZG gear load-carrying test under A/20/8.3/90 conditions, which the oil passed beyond load stage 13 without scuffing.
