Mobil SHC Aware Gear Series is a range of high performance, anti-wear gear oils for marine applications from ExxonMobil, formulated to meet the U.S. EPA 2013 Vessel General Permit (VGP) guidelines for environmentally acceptable lubricants. Available in ISO VG 68, 100 and 150 grades, they provide excellent wear protection for gears and bearings, safeguard against rust and corrosion, and offer outstanding oxidation properties across a wide operating temperature range with excellent low-temperature start-up and air release. The series suits marine controllable pitch propeller and thruster applications, enclosed steel-on-steel spur, helical and bevel gear drives, systems requiring readily biodegradable and minimally toxic fluids, environmentally sensitive marine and mobile equipment, and select stern tube applications. It holds thruster builder approvals from Nakashima, HHI, Hyundai, KTE, Nakashima Korea and KHI, plus SKF Marine (Simplex stern tube bushes and seals) and Wärtsilä Norway propulsion system approvals, and meets or exceeds AGMA 9005-E02-EP, ISO L-CKC/L-CKD (ISO 12925-1:2024) and US EPA VGP:2013 requirements. Key benefits include outstanding load-carrying and anti-wear properties that protect against micropitting and scuffing, a shear-stable high viscosity index for protection over a wide temperature range, excellent resistance to high-temperature degradation, and very good demulsibility with resistance to rust and corrosion.
