Premium "zinc-free" industrial hydraulic fluids for a wide temperature range. Shell Tellus S3 V fluids are high-performance hydraulic fluids using exclusive ashless technology, coupled with highly shear-stable viscosity modifiers. These deliver excellent viscosity control and protection under severe mechanical, thermal and chemical stress, across a wide temperature range. They provide excellent protection and performance in most mobile equipment and in other applications subject to a wide range of ambient or operating temperatures.
Applications
Mobile / exterior hydraulic applicationsCan be used in hydraulic and power transmission systems subject to wide temperature variations. The high viscosity index of Shell Tellus S3 V delivers outstanding performance from cold start to full-load operation under severe conditions.
Precision hydraulic systemsPrecision hydraulic systems require excellent fluid viscosity control throughout the operating cycle. Shell Tellus S3 V offers greater temperature-viscosity stability compared with many ISO HV fluids.
Environmental impactShell Tellus S3 V fluids have a reduced environmental impact in the event of leaks or accidental spillage, compared with conventional zinc-based hydraulic fluids, while increasing hydraulic system efficiency. This is possible thanks to the use of ashless anti-wear technology and low-sulphur oils. Shell Tellus S3 V is classified as "not harmful" to freshwater and marine invertebrates (OECD 202, US EPA OPPTS 850.1035). For further reductions in environmental impact, we offer the Shell Naturelle range of environmentally acceptable lubricants. For severe operating conditions, longer service life and increased efficiency, the Shell Tellus S4 ME range offers the highest level of performance and system efficiency.
Performance & benefits
Long service life – reduced maintenanceShell Tellus S3 V fluids offer an improved capability to extend fluid maintenance intervals and thereby reduce equipment downtime through: - A long ASTM D943 TOST lifetime, with an oxidative stability up to three times longer than the industry minimum; - Excellent resistance to degradation in the presence of water and heat; - Shear stability, to maintain viscosity control. These features provide extended maintenance capability without compromising protection or performance, even in applications under arduous conditions or at excessive temperatures.
Outstanding wear protectionAdvanced zinc-based anti-wear additives provide protection across a wide range of operating conditions, including low and severe loads as well as high-load operation. The very high viscosity index (VI) of Shell Tellus S3 V fluids, together with outstanding shear stability, ensures that oil film thickness is maintained on the most heavily stressed components of the hydraulic system. Protection is maintained even at high temperatures and under arduous operating conditions.
Maintaining system efficiencyA superior degree of cleanliness and filterability, together with excellent water separation, air release and anti-foam characteristics, all contribute to this. Excellent filterability is maintained even when the fluid is contaminated with water, with negligible formation of sludge or gels that could block the system's fine filters. Shell Tellus S3 V fluids meet the requirements of ISO 4406 21/19/16, e.g. at Shell filling lines. As recognised by the DIN 51524 specification, the oil is exposed to various influences during transport and storage that could affect its cleanliness level. These characteristics help extend filter life and allow the use of finer filtration for additional equipment protection.
