Shell Tellus S2 M are high-performance hydraulic fluids that use Shell's unique patented technology to deliver outstanding protection and operating performance for most mobile and manufacturing equipment. They resist mechanical stress and help prevent the formation of harmful deposits that can reduce hydraulic system efficiency.
Applications
Industrial hydraulic systemsApproved and recommended by a wide range of equipment manufacturers, Shell Tellus S2 M fluids are suitable for a wide range of hydraulic system applications found in manufacturing and industrial environments.
Mobile hydraulic power transmission systemsShell Tellus S2 M fluids can be used effectively in mobile hydraulic applications such as excavators and cranes, except where significant ambient temperature variations occur. For these applications, we recommend the products in the Shell Tellus "V" range.
Marine hydraulic systemsSuitable for marine applications where ISO HM category hydraulic fluids are recommended. influencing factors
Performance & benefits
Long service life – reduced maintenanceShell Tellus S2 M fluids help extend equipment maintenance intervals through their resistance to thermal and chemical breakdown. They minimise deposit formation and deliver excellent performance in the industry-standard ASTM D943 TOST (Turbine Oil Stability Test), providing better system reliability and cleanliness. Shell Tellus S2 M fluids also have good stability in the presence of moisture, which ensures a long fluid life and reduces the risk of corrosion and rusting, particularly in humid environments.
Outstanding wear protectionZinc-based anti-wear additives are incorporated to ensure proven effectiveness under all operating conditions, including low-load and heavy-load conditions. Outstanding performance in a series of piston and vane pump tests, including the Denison T6C test (dry and wet versions) and Vickers 35VQ25, demonstrates how Shell Tellus S2 M fluids can help system components last longer.
Maintaining system efficiencySuperior cleanliness, excellent filterability and outstanding water separation, air release and anti-foam characteristics all help maintain or increase the efficiency of hydraulic systems. The unique additive system in Shell Tellus S2 M, combined with a superior degree of cleanliness (meeting the requirements of ISO 4406 21/19/16 or better at the filling lines; as recognised by the DIN 51524 specification, the oil is exposed to various influences during transport and storage that may affect its cleanliness level), helps reduce the impact of contaminants on filter blocking, allowing both extended filter life and the use of finer filtration to protect equipment. The formulation of Shell Tellus S2 M fluids allows rapid air release without excessive foaming, to help transfer hydraulic power efficiently and minimise the impact on fluids and equipment of cavitation-induced oxidation, which can shorten fluid life.

Eaton Vickers Brochure 694 — fluid requirements
The Vickers brochure that set the classic requirements for hydraulic oils in vane and piston pumps: cleanliness, antiwear performance and thermal stability.
ISO 11158 (fluide HM)
Hydraulic oil, type H (fluide HM) — ISO 11158
The international standard for mineral hydraulic fluids; class HM is the antiwear oil, the ISO counterpart of DIN 51524-2 HLP.
AFNOR NF E 48603
NF E 48-603 — hydraulic fluids (France)
The French standard for mineral hydraulic fluids, built on the same HL, HM and HV classes as DIN 51524 and ISO 11158.
DIN 51524 tip HLP Part 2
Hydraulic oil tip HLP Part 2 — DIN 51524
Part 2 of the German hydraulic fluid standard: HLP oils — mineral oils with oxidation, corrosion and antiwear additives. It is the most widely quoted reference in industrial hydraulics.
Swedish Standard SS 15 54 34 AM
SS 15 54 34 — environmental requirements for hydraulic fluids (Sweden)
The Swedish standard requiring high biodegradability, low aquatic toxicity, and that the finished fluid not be classified as environmentally hazardous. It is required near groundwater and drinking water sources; verified products appear on the "SP list".
GB 111181-1-94 (fluide HM)
GB 11118.1-94, type HM — hydraulic oil (China)
The 1994 issue of the Chinese hydraulic fluid standard, class HM — a mineral oil with antiwear additives.
Parker Denison HF0/HF1/HF2
Parker Denison HF-0, HF-1 and HF-2
The three Denison hydraulic fluid levels quoted together. An oil covering all three passes the vane pump and piston pump tests alike, including in the presence of water.
