Manufacturer's description

Shell Tellus S2 VA is a high-performance hydraulic fluid with detergent properties, intended for hydraulic systems where emulsifying oils are preferred. Because it uses zinc-based anti-wear technology, it delivers proven performance in construction or mobile applications, where water contamination, cleanliness or the control of solid contaminants are important, combined with a wide operating temperature range.

Applications

  • Mobile equipmentEarthmoving machinery and similar equipment subjected to severe outdoor operating conditions.
  • Recommendations for HLPD oils:All hydraulic systems for which an HLPD oil is specified.
  • Hydraulic applications calling for engine oilsHydraulic systems that specify the use of engine oils meeting the SAE 10W, 20W-20 or 30 viscosity classification.
  • Other applicationsCertain industrial transmissions.

Performance & benefits

  • Protection in severe environmentsThe detergent and zinc-based anti-wear technology used in Shell Tellus S2 VA fluids provides additional protection in demanding environments by: - preventing water accumulation - dispersing solid contaminants - preventing corrosion in the presence of water - delivering low-friction anti-wear performance. In addition, the high viscosity index ensures protection and performance from low-temperature start-up through to high temperatures and severe operating conditions.
  • Long service life – reduced maintenanceShell Tellus VA fluids have good resistance to thermal and chemical breakdown, ensuring consistent performance and protection throughout the drain interval.
  • Maintaining system efficiencyA superior degree of cleanliness under severe environmental conditions maintains efficient hydraulic system operation. This is supported by excellent air release and anti-foam characteristics. In addition, Shell Tellus S2 VA provides excellent filterability, allowing the use of fine filters for additional protection and long equipment life. Smooth system operation is supported by the low-friction additive system. As recognised by the DIN 51524 specification, the oil is exposed to various influences during transport and storage that may affect its cleanliness level.
  • Compatibility: Shell Tellus S2 VA fluids are compatible with most types of pump. Before use in hydraulic pumps containing silver-plated components, your Shell representatives should be consulted

Standards & approvals

  • ISO 11158 (fluide HV)

Hydraulic oil, type H (fluide HV) — ISO 11158

Class HV of ISO 11158: an antiwear hydraulic oil with a high viscosity index, for systems exposed to wide temperature swings.

  • Bosch Rexroth RD 90220-01 (2011)

Bosch Rexroth RD 90220 — mineral hydraulic fluids

Bosch Rexroth's works standard for mineral hydraulic fluids in its own equipment: filterability, cleanliness and antiwear requirements beyond DIN 51524.

  • ISO 32-68

ISO 3448 — viscosity grades VG 32 to VG 68

ISO 3448 viscosity grades rather than a performance norm: the number gives kinematic viscosity in mm²/s at 40 °C. The product is supplied in grades VG 32 through VG 68.
