Shell Tellus S2 MA are high-performance hydraulic fluids with detergent properties, for use where emulsifiable fluids are preferred. Because they use ashless anti-wear technology, they deliver reliable performance in applications where contamination with aqueous fluids, such as cutting fluids, occurs, or where cleanliness or the control of solid contaminants is important.

Applications

• Industrial hydraulic systemsIndustrial and manufacturing applications, including: plastic injection moulding machines; electronically controlled hydraulic equipment; mobile equipment; headstocks and hydraulic controls of automatic lathes (where synthetic or semi-synthetic emulsifiable metalworking fluids are used). All hydraulic systems for which an HLPD oil is specified. Shell Tellus S2 VA 46 is recommended for operating conditions with low start-up and high working temperatures.

• Protection in severe environmentsThe modern detergent and anti-wear technology used in Shell Tellus S2 MA fluids provides additional protection in demanding environments by: preventing water accumulation; dispersing solid contaminants; preventing corrosion in the presence of water; delivering low-friction anti-wear performance. The excellent anti-wear and load carrying properties in hydraulic and gear systems, particularly under high-load, low-speed lubrication conditions, have been demonstrated by high Brugger and FZG load values.

• Maintaining system efficiencyA superior degree of cleanliness under severe environmental conditions maintains efficient hydraulic system operation. This is supported by excellent air release and anti-foam characteristics. In addition, Shell Tellus S2 MA provides excellent filterability, allowing the use of fine filters for additional protection and long equipment life. Smooth system operation is supported by the low-friction additive system. As recognised by the DIN 51524 specification, the oil is exposed to various influences during transport and storage that may affect its cleanliness level.
• Compatibility: Shell Tellus S2 MA fluids are compatible with most types of hydraulic pump
• Fluid compatibility: Shell Tellus S2 MA fluids are compatible with most mineral oil based hydraulic fluids. However, hydraulic fluids must not be mixed with other fluid types (e.g. environmentally acceptable or fire-resistant fluids)

  Bosch Rexroth's works standard for mineral hydraulic fluids in its own equipment: filterability, cleanliness and antiwear requirements beyond DIN 51524.

• ISO 22-100

  ISO 3448 — viscosity grades VG 22 to VG 100

  ISO 3448 viscosity grades rather than a performance norm: the number gives kinematic viscosity in mm²/s at 40 °C. The product is supplied in grades VG 22 through VG 100.

• ISO 11158 (fluide HM)

  Hydraulic oil, type H (fluide HM) — ISO 11158

  The international standard for mineral hydraulic fluids; class HM is the antiwear oil, the ISO counterpart of DIN 51524-2 HLP.

• ASTM 6158-05 (fluide HM)

  ASTM D6158, type HM — antiwear hydraulic oil

  The American standard for mineral hydraulic oils of type HM, that is, oils with antiwear additives. It is the ASTM counterpart of DIN 51524-2 HLP and ISO 11158 HM.
