Manufacturer's description

Mobil Zerice S Series is a range of premium quality synthetic refrigeration compressor lubricants based on alkyl benzenes. Their chemical nature gives them superior miscibility with hydrochlorofluorocarbon refrigerant (R22), enabling use in very low temperature applications down to -60°C; in certain circumstances they can also be used in compressors where ammonia is the refrigerant. Compared with mineral and other synthetic lubricants, Mobil Zerice S offers superior solubility with halocarbon refrigerants, helping to avoid oil separation and congealing on valves and heat transfer surfaces. The series has very low pour and floc points, helping prevent harmful wax precipitation that could block expansion valves and heat transfer surfaces, while its synthetic base provides excellent chemical stability against reaction with refrigerants and high thermal stability that resists oil breakdown, supporting long oil service life. Mobil Zerice S lubricants are recommended for all types of refrigeration compressors — reciprocating or rotary screw — and are well suited to hydrochlorofluorocarbon refrigerants and, in certain equipment builders' compressors, ammonia. They should not be used with sulfur dioxide or R134A refrigerants; viscosity grade should be selected per the compressor manufacturer's recommendation. Available in ISO VG 32, 46, 68 and 100 grades, the series shows an R12 flocculation point of -60°C across all grades (AMS 100.42), pour points from -33°C to -27°C, and flash points from 154°C to 186°C.

Applications

  • Mobil Zerice S lubricants are recommended for all refrigeration compressor types: reciprocating or rotary screw. They are well suited for use with hydrochlorofluorocarbon refrigerants, and may also be suited for use with ammonia in certain equipment builders' compressors. They should not be used with sulfur dioxide or R134A refrigerants. The specific viscosity grade should be selected in accordance with the compressor manufacturer's recommendations.
