Manufacturer's description
Developed in collaboration with Rotax®, AeroShell Sport Plus 4 oil is the first oil developed specifically for the piston engines of light sport aircraft, such as the ROTAX® 912 and 914 series. A combination of low cylinder head temperature (compared with air-cooled engines), low oil consumption and engine internals requires a blend of high-quality hydrocarbon oils incorporating synthetic technology, which allows full operation on various fuel types. This oil can be used in all climates.
Applications
- AeroShell Sport Plus 4 oil is intended for use in four-stroke (four-cycle) aircraft piston engines of original automotive design that cannot use traditional ashless dispersant engine oil types. These engines include carburettor, fuel-injected and turbocharged types, such as the ROTAX® 912 and 914 series.
- AeroShell Sport Plus 4 has been designed for use in integral gearboxes and wet clutch systems.
- AeroShell Sport Plus 4 oil can be used in engines running on both unleaded gasoline and Avgas 100LL. The correct choice of additives and good solvency properties allow the oil to handle the lead by-products that can form a semi-solid sludge in the oil and that can restrict oil galleries and compromise lubrication. In this respect, AeroShell Sport Plus 4 oil is superior to those oil types intended for automotive/motorcycle applications.
- Please consult the operating manual for the correct oil drain interval when running on different fuels.
Performance & benefits
- Primarily specific to light sport engines and to very light/ultralight aircraft engines.
- Helps keep engines clean, free of sludge and free of varnish.
- Helps engines reach TBO (time between overhauls).
- Protects heavily stressed engine parts against scuffing and wear.
- Anti-foam additives to maximise lubrication efficiency — particularly for those engines running with an integral gearbox.
- Better cold flow characteristics for easier starting and rapid protection.
- High thermal stability for longer-lasting and more reliable lubrication.
- Can be used in any climate.
- Advanced anti-rust and anti-wear package.
- Promotes engine cleanliness
- Helps reduce oil consumption
- Listed in Rotax Service Instruction SI-912i-01/SI-0912-016/SI-914-019 "Selection of suitable operating fluids for Rotax 912 and 914 (series) engine types" as an aviation oil tested and released by BRP-Powertrain for use with both leaded Avgas and unleaded fuel
- Do not use AeroShell Sport Plus 4 oil in engines designed to use aviation piston engine oils to SAE J-1899 or SAE J-1966. These include air-cooled Continental Motors and Textron Lycoming engines
