RP 56 is a high-quality petrolatum produced by Eni, obtained by modern refining of selected crude oil in dedicated plants: it is separated from lubricating oils by cooling and filtration in rotary filters, and its name refers to the viscosity grade of the original base oil at 210 °F, in Saybolt Universal Seconds. Its lubricating, water-repellent and rust-protective properties make it a raw material and an auxiliary component in production processes across the wood, paper and metal industries, and in candle making.
