Manufacturer's description
Mobilgear SHC MT 68 is a premium performance, fully synthetic marine gear oil designed to provide optimum equipment protection and oil life even under extreme conditions. Its polyalphaolefin (PAO) base stock offers exceptional oxidation resistance and thermal properties, a naturally high viscosity index, excellent low-temperature fluidity and freedom from undesirable compounds found in mineral oils; the high viscosity index and low traction coefficient can also reduce power consumption in many gear drives. The product's carefully blended additive system provides excellent protection against conventional wear modes such as scuffing, plus a high level of resistance to micropitting fatigue, exceeding industry bearing wear protection requirements as measured by the FAG FE 8 test, while maintaining compatibility with industry-standard gearbox seal materials. It is recommended for enclosed marine gear drives including steel-on-steel spur, helical and bevel gears, and was specifically designed for heavy-duty marine thruster/azimuth gear applications requiring an ISO VG 68 gear oil with extreme-pressure additive protection; it holds approvals from major marine thruster OEMs such as Brunvoll. Note that mixing with mineral oil products can detract from performance, so systems should be thoroughly cleaned and flushed before conversion. Mobilgear SHC MT 68 meets or exceeds ISO L-CKD (ISO 12925-1:2024), DIN 51517-3:2018-09 and AGMA 9005-F16. Benefits include superb protection from micropitting fatigue and scuffing wear, excellent resistance to high-temperature degradation for extended oil life and drain intervals, low-traction PAO base stocks for improved gear efficiency and reduced energy consumption, a high viscosity index for stable operation across temperature extremes, and excellent rust, corrosion and demulsibility performance, including in seawater and acidic water conditions.
Applications
- Application Considerations: While the Mobilgear SHC MT 68 is compatible with mineral oil based products mixture may detract from their performance. Consequently it is recommended that before changing a system to Mobilgear SHC MT 68, it should be thoroughly cleaned out and flushed to achieve the maximum performance benefits. Mobilgear SHC MT 68 is a premium performance, fully synthetic marine gear oil designed to provide optimum equipment protection and oil life even under extreme conditions. They are especially formulated to resist micropitting of modern gearing and can operate in both high and low temperature environments. The product was designed especially for marine thruster/azimuth gear drives requiring an ISO 68 viscosity gear oil with Extreme Pressure (EP) additive protection. Mobilgear SHC MT 68 has approvals from major marine thruster OEMs such as Brunvoll.
