Manufacturer's description

Mobilgard 1 HSD is an advanced fully synthetic, high speed marine diesel engine oil that helps extend engine life while providing long drain capability and potential fuel economy for modern and latest diesel engine technology operating in severe applications. It is a CK-4 API oil, developed through cooperative work between ExxonMobil and major equipment builders, that meets or exceeds the latest API and ACEA specifications for diesel engine oils, as well as many engine manufacturer requirements including Cummins and Caterpillar. Mobilgard 1 HSD is recommended for engine generations up to the latest and most sophisticated high performance diesel engines with turbochargers, direct injection and low emission designs featuring all types of exhaust after-treatment, for on-highway engines in high speed/high load and stop-and-go conditions, off-highway engines in severe low speed/heavy load conditions, most diesel equipment from American and European builders, high performance gasoline engines and mixed fleets, and refrigeration units. It delivers unsurpassed oxidation stability, exceptional low-temperature fluidity and pumpability for smooth cold starting, and a sophisticated additive system for excellent wear performance and long engine life. Its low-ash formulation protects exhaust after-treatment devices, including turbochargers and EGR systems, while advanced cleanliness performance prevents deposits. Approvals include Detroit Fluids Specification 93K222/93K218, MTU Oil Category 2.1, Cummins CES 20081/20086, API CK-4, Caterpillar ECF-3, ACEA E7/E11 and JASO DH-2.

Applications

  • Recommended by ExxonMobil for use in: • Most engine generations up to latest and most sophisticated high performance diesel engines with turbo-charger, direct injection and low emission designs, featuring all types of exhaust after-treatment technology • On-highway engines operating in both high speed/high load and stop-and-go conditions • Off-highway engines operating in severe low speed/heavy load conditions • Most diesel powered equipment from American and European equipment builders • High performance gasoline engines and mixed fleets • Refrigeration units.

Performance & benefits

  • Excellent low temperature pumpabilityReliable engine start and wear protection at low temperatures
  • Step out wear protectionReduced engine wear to promote long engine life
  • Unsurpassed oxidation stabilityControl of low temperature sludge build-up and high temperature varnish deposits
  • Long oil drain intervals and prevention of depositsHelps towards good operating efficiency and lower overall cost
  • Superb resistance to corrosionProtection of critical engine surfaces in humid environments

Standards & approvals

  • Detroit Detroit Fluids Specification 93K222

    Detroit Fluids Specification 93K222

Detroit Diesel's current heavy-duty diesel engine oil specification, matching the API CK-4 level, with increased oxidation stability and aeration requirements.

  • Detroit Fluids Specification 93K218

Detroit Diesel's engine oil specification at the API CJ-4 level, for engines with a particulate filter. Sulphated ash is capped to protect the DPF.

  • MTU Oil Category 2.1

MTU Oil Category 2.1 (low SAPS)

The low-ash form of MTU category 2: a multigrade oil with under 1 % ash, approved only where the fuel carries less than 50 mg/kg sulphur.

  • Cummins CES 20081

The Cummins specification matching the API CK-4 level, for modern heavy-duty diesel engines with exhaust aftertreatment.

  • Cummins CES 20086

Cummins' specification for low-viscosity oils (API FA-4 level) that cut fuel consumption in the heavy-duty diesel engines designed for them.

  • API CK-4

Diesel engine oil, API CK-4 performance level

API's service category for compression-ignition engines. Current category.Source

  • Caterpillar ECF-3

Caterpillar's current engine crankcase fluid category, with capped sulphated ash, for CAT engines fitted with a particulate filter.

  • ACEA E7

    ACEA E7 oil sequence

    ACEA's sequence for heavy-duty diesel engines.Source

  • JASO DH-2

JASO DH-2 — diesel engine oil

The Japanese standard for heavy-duty diesel engine oils in DPF-equipped engines, with sulphated ash capped so the filter does not clog.

  • ACEA E11

ACEA E11 — heavy-duty diesel, low SAPS, extended drain

An ACEA sequence for Euro VI and later heavy-duty diesel engines fitted with DPF and SCR. It requires low-SAPS additive chemistry (reduced sulphur, ash and phosphorus) and the oxidation resistance needed for extended drain intervals.
