Manufacturer's description

Cat Special Application Transmission Oil (SATO) is a multi-grade, semi-synthetic transmission oil approved for factory fill as well as service fill for all Cat Medium Wheel Loaders (MWL). Caterpillar positions it as offering ultimate protection regardless of the transmission, with excellent cold-start performance and extended drain intervals for both Advanced Powertrain Transmissions and traditional powershift transmissions. It is specified for the 966M XE and 972M XE (Advanced Powertrain Transmission), and the 950M, 962M, 966M, 972M, 980M and 982M (Powershift Transmission); Caterpillar notes it is not acceptable for use in lower powertrain components such as final drives, axles and differentials. Typical values from the Cat technical data sheet include a flash point of 236°C (ASTM D92), a pour point of -42°C (ASTM D97), a viscosity of 13,500 cP at -30°C (ASTM D5293), 73 cSt at 40°C and 11.4 cSt at 100°C (ASTM D445), a viscosity index of 149 (ASTM D2270), zinc content of 0.138% by weight, phosphorus content of 0.110% by weight and calcium content of 0.312% by weight (ASTM D4951).

Applications

  • - 966M XE, 972M XE (Advanced Powertrain Transmission)* - 950M, 962M, 966M, 972M, 980M, 982M (Powershift Transmission)* *not acceptable for use in lower powertrain components (final drives, axles, differentials)
