Cat FDAO SYN is a synthetic, multigrade final drive and axle oil for off-highway trucks and large track-type tractors. It is the preferred lubricant for Cat off-highway truck and D11R carrydozer front wheels, differentials and final drives operating under high load factors, and is compatible with Cat final drives and axles that previously specified Cat FDAO or TO-4 lubricants and contain no friction material. Developed, tested and approved by Caterpillar to meet the same standards as Genuine Cat Parts, Cat FDAO SYN extends drain intervals by up to a factor of three in off-highway truck final drives compared with Cat TDTO and TO-4 oils, is formulated for minimal foaming, and has demonstrated the capability to double bearing life and quadruple gear life compared with TDTO and TO-4 oils used in off-highway-truck final drives. Typical characteristics: multigrade SAE viscosity, ISO viscosity grade 320, Caterpillar Test FD-1, API gravity 33.4, flash point 246°C (474°F) min., pour point -36°C (-38°F), Brookfield viscosity 34,100 cP at -20°C and 131,200 cP at -30°C, kinematic viscosity 320 cSt at 40°C and 31.6 cSt at 100°C, viscosity index 138, and copper strip corrosion rating 1A.
