Cat Prime Application Grease is a lithium complex grease enhanced with 3% molybdenum disulfide (moly), designed for medium-load, medium-speed and moderate-temperature applications in low-moisture environments. It resists softening to protect parts from wear, and resists oxidation to protect metal against rust without corroding or damaging steel, copper bearing alloys or conventional seal materials. It is an NLGI grade 2, gray-black grease built on a mineral base oil, rated for operating temperatures from -20°C to +140°C (-4°F to +284°F). Typical values from the Cat technical data sheet include a base oil viscosity of 320 mm²/s at 40°C (ASTM D445), a dropping point of 260°C (ASTM D2265), worked (60-stroke) penetration of 280 (ASTM D217), a roll-stability penetration change of -3 (ASTM D1831), a 4-ball wear scar of 0.47 mm and a 4-ball weld load of 400 kg (ASTM D2596). In Cat's grease selection guide, Cat Prime Application Grease is positioned for medium-load, medium-speed working environments, sitting between the high-load, high-speed Extreme Application greases and the low-load, low-speed Utility Grease.
