Cat Extreme Application Grease - Desert is designed for high-load, high-speed applications in high-temperature environments. It uses a high-quality calcium-sulfonate complex thickener in a mineral base oil, fortified with 5% molybdenum disulfide (moly), to deliver long service life in Cat applications while continuing to perform and protect at operating temperatures up to +140°C (+284°F). The grease resists softening under extreme loads and high speeds, helping reduce component wear, and resists oxidation to protect metal against rust without corroding or damaging steel, copper bearing alloys or conventional seal materials. It is rated over an operating temperature range of -10°C to +140°C, at NLGI grade 2, with a gray-black color. Typical values from the Cat technical data sheet include a base oil viscosity of 460 mm²/s at 40°C (ASTM D445), a 4-ball wear scar of 0.57 mm (ASTM D2266), a 4-ball weld load of 500 kg (ASTM D2596), a pass on rust prevention (ASTM D1743) and 1A copper corrosion (ASTM D4048). In Cat's grease selection guide, this grease is positioned for high-load, high-speed working environments in hot-temperature conditions, alongside the Cat Extreme Application Grease - Arctic, Prime Application, Utility and Ball Bearing greases.
