Shell Omala S2 G are premium-quality extreme-pressure oils intended for lubricating industrial gears subjected to arduous operating conditions. Their high load carrying capacity, combined with their anti-friction characteristics, gives the oil superior in-service performance.
Applications
Gears operating under arduous conditionsShell Omala S2 G oils have an effective extreme-pressure (EP) additive system, which allows them to be used in heavily loaded gear systems.
Other applicationsShell Omala S2 G oils are suitable for lubricating gears and other lubrication systems using oil circulation or splash. For very heavily loaded worm gears, Shell Omala S4 WE, Shell Morlina S4 B and Shell Omala S1 W are recommended. For automotive hypoid gears, Shell Spirax oils should be used. Shell does not recommend use in systems with fine filtration (< 10 microns), because foam control cannot be assured. Please consult your Shell technical representatives and product application specialists.
Performance & benefits
Long service life – reduced maintenanceShell Omala S2 G oils have high thermal and chemical stability, which helps extend oil life. They withstand high thermal loading and resist deposit formation, extending the oil drain interval even at bulk oil temperatures above 100 0 C, encountered in certain applications.
Excellent wear and corrosion protectionThe excellent load carrying capacity in service helps reduce gear tooth wear and bearing wear on steel components. Shell Omala S2 G provides excellent corrosion protection for steel components, even in the presence of contamination by water and solids.
Maintaining system efficiencyShell Omala S2 G oils have excellent water separation properties, so that excess water can be drained easily from lubrication systems, extending gear life and providing efficient lubrication of contact surfaces. The presence of water in the system accelerates surface fatigue on gear and bearing contact surfaces and leads to corrosion on internal surfaces. Water contamination should be avoided or, once it occurs, removed as soon as possible.
Standards & approvals
AGMA EP 9005 - EO2
AGMA 9005-E02, EP grade
The extreme-pressure oil class of the E02 (2002) edition of AGMA 9005, for heavily loaded enclosed gear drives. That edition has been superseded by AGMA 9005-F16.
ISO 12925-1 tip CKD
Industrial gear lubricant tip CKD — ISO 12925
Class CKD of ISO 12925-1: a gear oil with the same additive package as CKC but greater thermal stability, for gear units running hot.
DIN 51517 - Part 3 CLP
Industrial gear oil - Part 3 CLP — DIN 51517
Part 3 of the German lubricating oil standard: class CLP, gear oils with extreme-pressure additives. It requires an FZG pass plus corrosion and ageing protection.
