Mobil Cylinder Oils are high-performance, high-viscosity oils designed for enclosed worm gears operating at moderate to high speeds and temperatures, and for applications where heavy loads, slow speeds or high temperatures demand high-viscosity lubricants, including steam engine cylinders. Formulated from high-quality base stocks resistant to oxidation and thermal degradation, they resist the harmful deposit build-up caused by high steam-cylinder temperatures, protect against rust and corrosion, and provide good film strength, excellent lubricity and resistance to water washout. The family comprises four grades across ISO 460 to 1000: Mobil 600W Cylinder Oil for splash lubrication of enclosed worm gears and for steam cylinders, couplings, bearings and compressor cylinder break-in; Mobil 600W Super Cylinder Oil and Mobil Extra Hecla Super Cylinder Oil, additized for enhanced friction and load-carrying properties and suited to higher temperature and load conditions (600W Super recommended for saturated and superheated steam up to 260°C, Extra Hecla above 260°C); and Mobil Extra Hecla Super Cylinder Oil Mineral, valued for good demulsibility where ready separation from condensate is essential, and usable as a tempering oil up to 290°C bath temperature. All grades can be applied by drip-feed cups or force-feed mechanical lubricators, delivering excellent resistance to high-temperature deposit formation, strong anti-wear and low-friction properties, and — in the non-additized grade — ready separation from condensate.

Applications

• Mobil 600W Cylinder Oil is recommended for the following applications: • The splash lubrication of enclosed worm gears operating at moderate to high speeds and temperatures. (Mobil 600 W Cylinder Oil) • Steam cylinders, couplings, bearings, and break-in of compressor cylinders (Mobil 600 W Cylinder Oil) • Mobil 600W Super Cylinder Oil and Mobil Extra Hecla Super Cylinder Oil are recommended for the above applications but under higher temperature and load conditions • Mobil Extra Hecla Super Cylinder Mineral is recommended where ready separation from condensate is essential, for example, where exhaust steam is used for process work • Mobil Extra Hecla Super Cylinder Mineral may also be used as a tempering oil for bath temperatures up to 290ºC
