Cat Bio HYDO Advanced is a synthetic ester based hydraulic fluid with more than 90% bio-based content (per ASTM D6866), developed for use across a wide range of applications, conditions and temperatures. Despite its environmentally friendly formulation, Caterpillar states it delivers the drain interval performance of a premium mineral-based hydraulic oil, with exceptional system protection, superior wear protection, corrosion resistance and fast air release comparable to premium mineral-based hydraulic oils. It is EU Flower eco-label certified and USDA BioPreferred-listed. The fluid is formulated with a low-foaming, fast-air-release chemistry and specially developed additives that form a protective wear layer on hydraulic pump and component surfaces, while emulsifiers hold water in dispersion rather than letting it separate and damage components. It is highly compatible with the seals used in Cat hydraulic systems, helping reduce leaks and maintenance costs, and maintains consistent wear protection across a wide temperature range. Typical values from the Cat technical data sheet include oxidation stability of more than 3,000 hours (dry, ASTM D943), a viscosity of 44.3 cSt at 40°C and 8.6 cSt at 100°C, a viscosity index of 176, a pour point of -45°C, and Brookfield viscosities of 1,227 cP at -20°C and 3,039 cP at -30°C (ASTM D2983). Caterpillar recommends it for ambient temperatures from -30°C to +45°C, and notes it is suitable for use in environmentally sensitive areas, with long-drain-interval capability confirmed by field testing.
