Manufacturer's description
ExxonMobil Premium AFME 200 belongs, alongside ExxonMobil Premium HDME 50, to a new category of marine fuel developed in response to the 2015 ECA sulphur limit of 0.10%. Produced with a proprietary refining process that removes sulphur, metals and other contaminants, it complies with the ECA sulphur cap while helping optimise engine performance and extend component life. Its viscosity is comparable to heavy fuel oil (HFO), enabling similar storage and handling practices, and — like ExxonMobil Premium HDME 50 — it requires preheating, reducing the risk of thermal shock during switchovers. It also has a higher flashpoint than marine gas oil (MGO), making it less volatile and safer for boiler use, with a reduced risk of furnace explosions. Benefits include higher viscosity than MGO for easier fuel switching to HFO, full compatibility with ExxonMobil Premium HDME 50 (avoiding co-mingling issues), low metals and contaminants for reduced ash build-up and cleaner engines, excellent ignition quality for improved cold starts, and good lubricity that minimises friction and wear. For vessels needing to comply with the 0.10% ECA sulphur cap, the product must be stored in heated tanks and treated in heated fuel systems. Typical properties include density of 917 kg/m³ at 15°C, sulphur below 0.10%, viscosity of 67 cSt at 50°C, flash point above 70°C and total acid number below 0.1 mg KOH/g; ExxonMobil Premium AFME 200 meets and exceeds ISO 8217:2012 RME 180.
