Manufacturer's description

ExxonMobil supplies Jet A and Jet A-1, kerosene-type aviation turbine fuels whose primary difference is freeze point — the temperature at which wax crystals disappear in laboratory testing. Jet A, used mainly in the United States, must have a freeze point of -40°C or below and typically does not contain static dissipator additive. Jet A-1, used outside the United States, must have a freeze point of -47°C or below and normally contains static dissipator additive; further manufacturing-specification differences exist between the U.S. and Europe/Africa/Middle East/Australasia markets. Both grades meet ASTM D1655, Standard Specification for Aviation Turbine Fuels. ExxonMobil Jet A-1 additionally complies with U.K. DEF STAN 91-091 and the JIG (Joint Inspection Group) Aviation Fuel Requirements for Jointly Operated Systems; the Def. Stan. 91-091 version carries a lower maximum acidity limit and an additional conductivity requirement. In all cases, the most recent issue of the relevant specification applies to the product supplied. Key controlled properties include acidity (0.10 mg KOH/g max, 0.015 for Def. Stan. 91-091), aromatics (25 vol% max), total sulphur (0.30 wt% max), flash point (38°C min), density at 15°C (775-840 kg/m³), viscosity at -20°C (8.0 mm²/s max) and net heat of combustion (42.8 MJ/kg min), along with thermal stability, smoke point and electrical conductivity requirements.
