Cat DEO Monograde SAE 40 is a monograde diesel engine oil for Cat 3600 series diesel engines, developed, tested and approved by Caterpillar to meet the same standards as Genuine Cat Parts, and used as standard factory-fill for these engines. It is recommended for older Cat engines equipped with precombustion fuel injection systems that permit API CD or CF oil, and can be used with low-sulfur diesel fuel while protecting Cat engines running on higher-sulfur fuel — up to 1.30% sulfur for 3600 series direct-injection engines and up to 0.65% sulfur for precombustion engines. Cat DEO Monograde resists oxidation and prevents deposit buildup on pistons and rings for increased engine life, extends oil drain intervals when combined with Cat S•O•S oil analysis, and has been tested worldwide in Cat 3600 series diesel engines. Because these large-bore, medium-speed engines require oils meeting a proprietary Caterpillar standard not defined by any industry classification, any alternative lubricant must be shown to meet the same standard. Typical characteristics: SAE 40, API CF (also usable where obsolete API CD is recommended), CCMC D3, API gravity 25.5, flash point 215°C min, pour point -18°C max, kinematic viscosity 132 cSt at 40°C and 14.7 cSt at 100°C, viscosity index 112, sulfated ash 1.4% wt., TBN 12.0, zinc 0.10% wt. and phosphorus 0.09% wt.
