Refrigeration compressor lubricant. Shell Refrigeration S2 FR-A is a low-miscibility compressor lubricant intended for use in refrigeration compressors using ammonia as the refrigerant. It is formulated from specially refined paraffinic base oils in combination with selected additives to minimise system deposits and provide a long service life.

Applications

• Refrigeration compressorsShell Refrigeration S2 FR-A is an oil recommended for use in open, semi-open and hermetic compressors in domestic, commercial and industrial refrigeration systems. It can be used in both rotary and reciprocating compressor types.
• Refrigerant compatibilityShell Refrigeration S2 FR-A is recommended for lubricating refrigeration compressors using ammonia (R717) as the refrigerant, as well as in refrigeration systems where it delivers excellent performance, even at high compressor discharge temperatures or at evaporation temperatures of -30 0 C. It may also be used in systems using hydrocarbons, such as propane (R290). Shell Refrigeration S2 FR-A is not recommended for use with CFC, HCFC or HFC refrigerants such as R12, R22 or R134a.

It has been designed to reduce final oil carry-over; this reduces oil thickening in the compressor and reduces the oil film on the internal surfaces of the evaporator, thereby maintaining overall system efficiency.
• Extended maintenance intervalsShell Refrigeration S2 FR-A has excellent oxidation and high-temperature stability, ensuring a long service life even where high discharge temperatures occur in the compressor. In addition, it is formulated to provide excellent control of deposit and sludge formation, resulting in extended oil drain intervals compared with conventional mineral oil based refrigeration oils.
• Shell Refrigeration S2 FR-A meets the requirements of the DIN 51503 KAA and KE specification
• Lubricant compatibility: Shell Refrigeration S2 FR-A is fully miscible with mineral oils, alkylated benzene and PAO-based lubricants
