Mobil Rarus PE KPL 220 is an ISO VG 220 ethylene and co-monomer compressor oil based on a patented combination of high-purity, saturated hydrocarbon oils supplemented with friction-reducing and free-radical trap additives at adapted treat levels. It is specifically designed for the lubrication of very high-pressure ethylene and co-monomer hyper compressors, usable up to 3800 bar depending on the oil injection system and temperature, with viscosity and composition tailored for the highest pressures found in ethylene compressors for LDPE production. The oil keeps viscosity increase under extreme pressure low enough to ensure adequate lubricant flow, while its additives prevent early polymerisation of reactive gas components and impurities inside the compressor, which could otherwise cause deposits and lubrication failure. It also mitigates friction losses and can improve cylinder packing life, reducing the frequency of maintenance shutdowns. Its low-reactivity, high-purity, low-polarity components do not interfere with polymerisation reactions and avoid discoloration or odour in the finished polymer, making the oil suitable for polymers used in food packaging and electrical insulation applications. Mobil Rarus PE KPL 220 is registered to NSF H1 and meets or exceeds FDA 21 CFR 178.3570 and Burckhardt VSB 1001180, including Burckhardt Pumpability certificates for hyper compressors up to 3850 bar and 3896 bar at a minimum temperature of 70°C. Typical properties include ISO VG 220 grade, kinematic viscosity of 210 mm²/s at 40°C, flash point of 270°C, pour point of -12°C, and total acid number of 0.5 mg KOH/g.
