Manufacturer's description

Mobil Brake Fluid DOT 4 is an extra high performance hydraulic brake fluid based on polyethylene glycol ether technology, formulated for use in automotive disc, drum and anti-skid brake systems as well as clutch systems. It is recommended by ExxonMobil for average to high performance vehicles requiring DOT 3 or DOT 4 level performance, covering both modern and older model automotive and commercial vehicles. Key benefits include a high boiling point for consistent and safe brake performance under severe braking pressure, minimum rubber component swell to reduce leakage and fluid loss, and excellent corrosion protection that extends the life and reliability of brake system components. As with all glycol-based brake fluids, it should be used only from a sealed container, resealed immediately after use to limit moisture absorption, and never reused once drained; ExxonMobil recommends draining and refilling the system every two years or 40,000 km (24,000 miles), subject to the vehicle owner's manual. Mobil Brake Fluid DOT 4 meets or exceeds FMVSS 116 DOT 3 and DOT 4, ISO 4925:2005 Class 3 and Class 4, and SAE J1704.

Applications

  • Mobil Brake Fluid DOT 4 is recommended by ExxonMobil for use in applications requiring disc, drum and anti-skid braking systems used in average to high performance vehicles requiring DOT 3 or DOT 4 level performance. Recommendations for use include: • Use only in its concentrated form out of a previously unopened or well sealed container • Always seal the container immediately after use as the fluid absorbs moisture from the atmosphere quite rapidly; this will reduce service life significantly. • Never reuse drained brake fluid. • Brake fluid can affect the vehicle paintwork, so remove spills immediately without rubbing. • Brake fluid should be drained from the vehicle every two years or 40,000 Km (24,000 Miles) and refilled. • Check Owners Operators Manual for details.

Standards & approvals

  • FMVSS 116 - DOT4

    FMVSS 116 DOT 4 — brake fluid

The US federal safety regulation defining the DOT brake fluid levels. DOT 4 demands a high boiling point both dry and after the fluid has taken up water.

  • SAE J 1704

    SAE J1704 — DOT 4 brake fluid

The SAE standard for DOT 4 brake fluids, with a higher boiling point than DOT 3, particularly once the fluid has taken up water.
