Oils for machine-tool slideways. Shell Tonna S2 M is specially formulated for lubricating machine-tool slideways and ways. Improved adhesion and stick-slip characteristics combine to deliver superior frictional performance for slideways. They are particularly recommended where there is high exposure to soluble cutting fluids.
Applications
Machine-tool slideways, tables and feed mechanisms
Developed for use on a wide range of machine-tool slideway surface materials, including cast iron and synthetic materials. Shell Tonna S2 M can also be used in hydraulic and transmission systems, in applications where Shell Tonna S3 M oils are generally preferred. The lower viscosity grades are intended for lubricating horizontal slideways (Shell Tonna S2 M 32 or 68). For vertical slideways, use Shell Tonna S2 M 220.
Performance & benefits
Rapid separation from water-miscible cutting fluidsRapid, immediate separation from water-miscible fluids allows easy skimming. This helps achieve an extended service life for coolants, better cutting performance and reduced health and safety concerns.
Good adhesion to machine-tool slidewaysEnsures very good adhesion to slideway surfaces, resisting wash-off by metalworking fluids and thereby reducing oil consumption and maintaining uniform working conditions for machine tools.
Good frictional propertiesThe problems caused by stick-slip are overcome, allowing more accurate positioning. This delivers benefits in improved surface finish quality and dimensional accuracy of workpieces.
Anti-wear protectionProvides good wear protection for slideways, gears, bearings and hydraulic system components.
Excellent corrosion prevention characteristicsProvides effective corrosion protection for both components and machine-tool surfaces in the presence of water-miscible metalworking fluids.
