Cat ELC (Extended Life Coolant) is a 50/50 premix coolant/antifreeze developed, tested and approved by Caterpillar for Cat and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) diesel and gasoline engines. It is used as the standard factory-fill for all Cat machine cooling systems. Cat ELC uses an advanced organic acid technology (a combination of mono- and dicarboxylate corrosion inhibitors) for maximum protection of copper, solder, brass, steel, cast iron and aluminum. Compared with conventional coolants it lowers maintenance costs by eliminating the need for supplemental coolant additives, while extending change-out intervals: up to 3,000 hours or 322,000 km (200,000 miles) / 3 years in Cat machines and commercial engines, and up to 12,000 hours or 6 years in Cat-powered on-highway trucks (both whichever comes first, with annual S•O•S Level 2 coolant analysis). Cat ELC meets or exceeds Cat EC-1, ASTM D-3306, ASTM D-6210, SAE J1034 and TMC RP-329/RP-338, and also meets the performance requirements of Cummins, Detroit Diesel, International, Mack and Volvo.
